Everyone Is On Their Own Journey

We all do things on our own time. Sometimes we can quit something cold turkey other times we have to gradually wean off. What method works for one might not work for the other. And whatever approach worked for you in one instance might not work for you in another. The goal is to consciously make the effort to improve or take the steps needed to get to our goals, no matter how small.

I went grocery shopping today. Actually let me rephrase that: I went MEAT shopping today, and talked with my butcher manager at my local Sprouts. We met around fall 2022, (when he replaced the previous butcher manager). He saves me grass-fed beef fat trimmings, for which I am seriously grateful. He is 6'5" and at the time weighed 350+ pounds. He knows I'm keto and carnivore, and that is why I need the beef fat. When I got back from two months in Mexico March 2023, he told me he had been keto for a few months; he lost over 40 pounds. He was looking good. Then, when I got back from five months in Europe October 2023, I could tell he put some weight back on. I asked if he was on keto still and he said no. Now, today, we caught up, it had been a couple of months. He approached me with an incredible amount of energy, "Dude, where have you been? I went carnivore!" He was so pumped. So excited. Most people are. Because most people feel amazing when all they eat is fatty red meat, salt, and water. He lost 25 pounds in five weeks. He's now down to 267 pounds. And he looks great. At 6'5" he can stand to lose a lot more. He said the Army entrance weight for him back in the day was 230. I can easily see him at 200 pounds (his BMI normal mid point is 183 pounds).

And that's just it, we are all on our own journey. When he went keto he told me no way could I do strict carnivore. Fast forward a year and here he is. He's even lapsed in between. All of that is okay. We go at our own pace, we fight our own inner demons, we all learn from our own mistakes differently. It's all a process. And it's rarely ever smooth. All transitions are choppy and messy. Because that's what change is. Out with the old thinking and habits and in with new information and movements. And that all takes time to digest, process, understand, and learn. Most things have many layers and it takes time to sift through them all, understand them, and learn them. And when it comes to diet, food, nutrition, and health, the amount of misinformation out there is incredible and it doesn't help that most of it is supported by corporations with a hidden agenda of trying to sell you something.

So go easy on yourself as you step forward towards a new goal, a better version of you. Allow yourself to make mistakes and fail forward. Enjoy the process of discovering and trying new things. And embrace it with a childlike innocence. That boundless, joyful energy. There is no such thing as perfect, so embrace your imperfections. The goal is to be conscious. Awake. And if we fall off. It's okay. Just make the effort to get back on track. Life is short. Make it fun. Stay healthy.
