To Be in Service

This is the solution to many people's problems. It is incredible to see people's problems melt away once they commit to being in service to others. Don't get me wrong it's a balancing act between not spreading yourself too thin and selling yourself short. But when we take the attention away from ourselves and got out of our head and into our hearts and serve others, our load lightens.

This service can be anything from unpaid to paid. Volunteering is the classic unpaid example: at your church, local school, park, home owners association, library, animal rescue center, a youth club, a senior center, the options are abound. You can even joyfully pick up trash along the sidewalk of your neighborhood walk, completely on your own accord, with no acknowledgement. The sheer act of kindness for many will release endorphins. The mental and emotional benefits one gets from charitable service is astounding. So if you feel like you are in a rut. Volunteer! Even if it's just an hour a week, or a day a month, or a weekend a quarter, or a week a year. Some people use two weeks of their annual holiday to volunteer in Africa! Fantastic way to win all around.

I am a huge advocate of working for yourself. And if you aren't already, then I highly recommend you develop a service on the side that you are truly passionate about that has potential to supplement your income while providing a service to the benefit of society. Whatever it is someone out there will appreciate your contribution. Whether you are a graphic designer, a budding photographer, or have an eye for interior design the world needs your gifts. There are even people who write books for people's animals.... So never sell yourself short. Have low expectations and have fun! Don't be afraid to start small. We all have to start somewhere. Be clever with your pricing packages. And yes, value yourself. Do not sell yourself short, but at the same time we have to give a little to get a lot.

There is nothing more rewarding than sharing your talents with the world. The spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical benefits are priceless. Share your gifts and you will be rewarded in ways you could never imagine. Do not limit yourself. Be authentic. Be fearless. And have fun!
