We Are Products of Our Environments
Since we are at the beginning of a new year, it's helpful to step back and reflect and think about where we are going, what we are building, and developing. Heck, do a check-in monthly or quarterly, even. It's okay to shift gears anytime. The exercise is to see if what we are putting in/on our bodies (nutrition, lotions, soaps) and in our heads (information) is helping or hurting.
The latter also includes family and friends and business partners/associates– who are the five people you spend the most time? It's a fairly strong indicator of where you are heading or how far you can go. One ideally wants to be in the middle. The spectrum: a couple to learn from and a couple to teach. Symbiotic harmony.
The same goes for food. If we are pumping our bodies full of garbage food, then that is exactly how we will feel. We all live on a tolerance spectrum, but one thing is for certain we all thrive on an ancestral appropriate diet. That being, naturally fed animals (like grass-fed beef, lamb, bison, elk, deer, wild caught seafood (in the cadre of low to no mercury), rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids. If you can find natural pork and chicken and other fowl, fantastic. I have been practicing keto for over three years and off and on carnivore for 18 months. I'm currently full carnivore for the month of January. I wanted to do it after the last quarter of eating some food and cheese on near daily basis. So a nice little clean up is doing me well. It just so happens that it's World Carnivore Month.... Take it for what you will, but it's a nice community that's growing. Good to see the awareness spreading. And even better to see so many people healing and feeling so much better. It's such a simple thing. That eating just fatty meat, salt, and water could make one feel infinitely better. But the anecdotes are all there.
The paradox and most difficult thing about carnivore is that society finds it weird (even though this is how our ancestors ate! until like 100 years ago!). And that there is so much garbage out there. Also, it's really difficult to eat on the go. That's where beef jerky or pre-cooked leftovers come in. Or one can just fast. I am a huge fan of fasting. Outside of my daily intermittent fasting, I aim to do one 24h fast a week - basically a dinner to dinner fast or OMAD (One Meal A Day). Between the fasting and eating simple and clean my body and mind feel great.
Now for the brain and the mind. It is so key what we feed them. Our thoughts really dictate our lives. And if we are pumping in reality tv trash or listening to someone spew venomous toxicity, we need to turn it off or walk away. Life is too short. I love reading philosophies or learning something new or deepening my knowledge in an area. I always want to be learning and pushing myself to be bigger, better, faster, stronger. I do admittedly need to work on the softer human skills like patience and tolerance. Ugh. I really struggle with those.
Wishing everyone to be mindfully grounded and consciously aware of their inputs. We are what we eat, watch, and listen too. Surround yourself with the best. And keep pushing.
