Don't Ask for Permission
If there is something you want to do– do it! You want to write a book, coach your kid's sport team, paint, travel the world, create a new business, ask someone out, just do it. We are all on one path– death. We are all going to die someday and there is no point in having someone tell you what to do.
Yes, there are law we must adhere to, but in most instances it is better to beg for forgiveness than to ask for permission. And yes, that doesn't mean be mean or to not collaborate with people– we are still social creatures and we still need one another to create and live.
The point is to not hold yourself back if there is something you are dying to do. Don't let anyone stop you. Everyone starts from somewhere. So just start. Take your time. But be dedicated and disciplined to do the work. Everything entails just that– daily disciplined action.
So what's one thing that you have been putting off because you think you need someone's permission or you aren't good enough, smart enough, talented enough, creative enough, QUALIFIED?!? That last one is the worse! Who cares. The more I go through life the more I question people's qualifications and how I think they are largely garbage.
So on that note, allow yourself to be the best unqualified __________ out there! And have fun! You never know, you just might be the next authority in that thing!
